Midland Senior Women's Golf Association

Brenda King winners 2024The venue was Belton Park, from 29th - 31st July, and the players were ready to take part in the 5th Brenda King Foursomes since the committee took over the running of the tournament from England Golf. With a full field of 86 pairs from 94 clubs, stretching from Ireland to Wales and most parts of England, we were all ready. MSWGA were well represented by 31 pairs. Within the field we had 4 recently selected England senior internationals Helen Lowe, Tracey Williamson, Caroline Berry and also Welsh senior internationals Deborah Howard and Julie Thomas. There were also 7 MS Captain's playing in the competition; Denise Parker, Pat west, Andrea Stockdale, Carol Wild, Sally Sketcher, Julie Brown and current Vice-Captain Helen Lowe. We were all expecting a great tournament and the players didn’t disappoint. The preparation by the club was superb and the course looked stunning in the sunshine with the greens running true. Even the deer were out sunbathing.

Day 1 and the early starters enjoyed the early morning sun. some great scores were posted with MS Sarah Cranton - Stourbridge / Lisa Cullinen - Rugby tied in 1st place alongside ex MS Mary Maclaren - Royal Portrush / Kate Evans - Frilford with 74 gross. Carol Wild - Notts Ladies / Debbie Warren - Enville 75 gross.

Marcella Tuttle105 gathered for the players dinner and our usual bingo enjoyed by all. This years entertainment was Jake Banfield and wow did he entertain. We had no idea how anything happened and suppose that’s why its called magic.

Day 2 and the weather was perfect again and scores were varied with Sarah and Lisa maintaining their good start and following it with a 77. Having an early start they felt they had left the door open for others to post a good score. MS Helen Lowe - Scraptoft / Karen Jobling posted a fantastic 75 to take them up the leaderboard. MS captain Julie Brown - Trentham / Joanne Peacock - Leek posted a good score of 78. Scoring appeared more difficult on day 2, possibly due to the searing heat. Best nett on Day 1 was posted by Jane Sly - Millride / Fran Campbell - Millride, with a fantastic 67.

Sarah and Lisa maintained their lead and took the title by 4 shots from Helen and Karen. The nett title was taken by Jane and Fran. Congratulations also to Marcella Tuttle who had a hole-in-one on 17th! Download links for Prizewinners, Gross Results and Nett Results.
