English Seniors Match Play Sandy Lodge Golf Club April 22nd- 25th 2014
11 Midland Vets made the journey to Sandy Lodge Golf club on the outskirts of Watford in May. The course was a well laid out parkland course and the greens were especially good, for early in the year. The weather was generally favourable for early in the week.
We had 2 newcomers to senior golf Julie Brown from Trentham and Helen Lowe form Scraptoft, both playing in their first English event. Both had super rounds on the first day Julie 72 level par and Helen 75 3 over. Julie went on to qualify for the match play stages as leading qualifier with a 75 on Day 2. The following qualified for the championship flight Julie Brown, Sue Spencer, and Karen Lobb. Helen Lowe and Sue Westall qualified for Flight 2. Julie went on to win in fine style beating Chris Quinn in the final, an experienced England International. Sue Penfold won the consolation stabelford with 36 points.
The following also took part Andrea Stockdale, Lindsay Shaw, Gill Snelson, Denise Parker, Sue Pidgeon, Liz Moverley, Caron Harrison, Gillian Curley, Marie Watson, and Elizabeth Brammeld.
