The first major tournament of the season, the English Seniors Stroke Play, at Frilford Heath, from 18th to 20th August, started with temperatures raging into the low 30s. We were all prepared with our ice towels and frozen drinks. Little did we know that it would be this difficult and several top players found the going too tough. Congratulations to England Golf for all their work in making the tournament safe and enjoyable despite COVID-19 and the heat. The top seniors played some great golf and the course was in great condition.
What a sterling job the ground staff did when the thunderstorm to beat all thunderstorms arrived midway through the Handicap round. With trees down and the course flooded, the Handicap Tournament was reduced to just 1 round.
