The MSWGA 3 Ball Alliance was played on 9 September at Shirley Golf Club in Warwickshire. We had a fantastic entry of 81 ladies from many of the Midland counties. We hoped this would be the case with its easy access to the M6 and M42 and it being a course which has hosted England and Midland Championships. Despite its tricky start, everyone seemed to really enjoy playing although with Warwickshire having had its share of rain lately, although thankfully none on the day, the greens were slow but the course in excellent condition.

My thanks go to Shirley Golf Club manager, Aneil Chauhan and Lady Captain, Karen Johnson for all their help in arranging the event. The ladies section ran a raffle for her charity and raised £160 for Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. Karen would like me to thank all the players for this wonderful support of her charity. Thank you also to Jacqui Dean, clubhouse manager, who with her staff provided a constant supply of delicious food and to club members Stewart Almond and Geoff Hobbs who were our amazing starters!

Personally I must give very grateful thanks to Elizabeth Earnshaw of the WLCGA who set up the competition and input the scores all day, together with Shirley member Sharon Clutterbuck. With the first players out coming in with 77 points, we felt the scores were going to be good but this proved to be the winning score of the day but going to count back with 4 groups challenging for the honour.

2nd place: Jayne Crooks (Woodhall Spa GC), Lynn Exley (Spalding GC) and Dawn Cunnington (Woodhall Spa GC) 77 points, C/B 40 points
3rd place: Mandy Paterson (Ingestre Park GC), Deborah Pursell (Ingestre Park GC) and Nicola Dyke (Trentham GC) 77 points, C/B 39 points
4th place: Anne Parry (Stratford on Avon GC), Gillian Curley (Stratford on Avon GC) and Skye Furnace (Stratford on Avon GC) 77 points, C/B 36 points
5th place: Lisa Cullinan (Rugby GC), Marie Swindells (Maxstoke Park GC) and Judith Pegler (Rugby GC) 75 points, C/B back last 3: 14 points
Nearest the Pin 12th hole: Claire Howells (Whittington Heath GC)
