Staverton Park is set in the heart of England surrounded by stunning countryside. Great facilities including a hotel, swimming pool and gym. This was the 20th anniversary of the championships which was the inspiration of Viv Saunders OBE and Sue Timberlake. Over the 20 years we have played on some wonderful courses, namely Woodhall Spa. Edgbaston, Sheringham, Sherwood Forest and many more.
Day 1 and a pretty miserable start for the greensome with all bunkers out of play. The greens held up well and rain stopped and play continued. Best score of the day was Sophie Beardsall and Liz Haughton Lincolnshire with 37 Pts. In 2nd place were Lou Harte and Anna Heaver Northants on c/b.
Day 2: We woke up to another damp start with the weather not looking to improve. The greens were holding up well, but the fairways were becoming waterlogged as play continued. Nervertheless there were some great scores returned. Staffordshire took the lead in the team event with a lead of 11 shots from Leicestershire. In the individual event new midlander Karen Haynes Leicestershire posted a fantastic score of 76 gross. Sue Spencer, Staffordshire was equal also with 76, closely followed by Sophie Beardsall 79 Lincolnshire. In the net event Annie Goodchild posted a great score of 81/70. Everyone was glad to get off the course and wring their socks out and dry their clubs.
The rain was soon forgotten as we all looked forward to an evening of fun and entertainment. It turned out to be a great night and Jennah of X Factor fame was brilliant, with a great range of songs and we danced the night away. Sue Penfold gave us an impromptu rendition of Titantic. Great night had by all.
Day 3: More rain in the night meant there were only 16 holes open; waterlogged fairwasy and all bunkers out of play. We made a collective decision to cancel the days play. Results would be taken on the first day's play. Everyone was clearly happy and prizegiving took place at 10:00am.
