This year’s match against Wales Senior Women was held at Aberdovey Golf Club on 7th July and a warm welcome was extended to us on a very windy but warm Monday. A big thanks to the Midlands team, which comprised of the following ladies: Jenny Arnold - Coventry Finham, Caroline Corrigan - Ingestre Park, Anne Fern - Whittington Heath, Sally Jee - Luffenham Ladies, Sam Morris - Brocton Hall, Jayne Fletcher - Whittington Heath, Rachel Rowe - Whittington Heath, Corinne Tooth - Ingestre Park and Carol Wild- Hollinwell.
Thanks also to the two home club ladies who were drafted in as replacements at the last minute for the Midlands, Rhian Cooper and Sian Nickson, who earned us a valuable point!! Helen Lowe and Carol Wild partnered to play Ann Lewis and Pip Settle and unfortunately lost, Ann Lewis was playing with a new putter, which we likened to a magic wand!
Sally Jee and Jenny Arnold had a closely fought ma
tch against Julie Snelson and Sally Wilkinson but were narrowly defeated. But then came two much needed victories from Jayne Fletcher playing with Sam Morris against Ann Marie Magee and Mary Upson followed by Caroline Corrigan and Corinne Tooth who convincingly beat Mair Eluned Jones and Julie McAloon. Anne Fern and Rachel Rowe our finalpairing lost their match against Jeanette Williams and Hayley Price.
All matches were played in great spirit and it is good to see everyone survived the brutal wind and our two wins along with the win from our “borrowed pairing” meant that the match finished at 3 matches each and hence we retained The Pigeon trophy. We look forward to defending again next year at Great Barr Golf Club on Monday 6th July 2026.
Thanks go to Shuna Sweeting and Sally Wilkinson who arranged everything at Aberdovey, to the club and caterers for having made us all so very welcome and to the greenstaff who had presented the course and greens in excellent condition. Many thanks and congratulations to all the ladies who represented the Midlands in this match.
